The centre of gravity this Saturday is the Grand Forks Art Gallery at 524 Central Avenue, where three exhibitions are up at once and two of the artists are talking about their work back to back in the afternoon. Admission is free, donations welcome, and you can be there in the time it takes to finish a coffee.
Sunday is deliberately slower: brunch on Market Avenue, a browse, and a couple of practical errands that come with a discount attached.

Morning: Ease Into Downtown
Start on foot. Market Avenue and Central Avenue are a couple of blocks apart, so a slow loop through downtown is all the warm-up you need before the gallery doors open.

If you would rather start the day with a treasure hunt, the Greenwood Seniors Thrift Store and Drop-in Centre opens at 11:00, about a 25 minute drive from Grand Forks along Highway 3. Go early, poke through the shelves, and you will still be back in plenty of time for the afternoon talks. Skip it happily if downtown already has your attention.

Before you leave the building, give the West Gallery its due. Florence Chernoff-Lymburner's oil paintings trace generations of community life, Doukhobor heritage and the Boundary Kootenay landscape you drove in through. For locals, expect the pleasant jolt of recognizing a hillside.
